15 Photographs Assignment - due by 12 pm on Tuesday, February 6
Using your smartphone, point-and-shoot or DLSR camera, take a series of photos according the guidelines below and post them to this blog. Pay attention to the rules of thirds, head room, lighting, background, exposure and the use of negative space.
You can take as many photos as you desire to achieve the look and quality that demonstrate your understanding of the key concepts as explained in class, but only post your best photographs here.
Find a friend, classmate, roommate or willing model or subject to work with. Also, please know that these images should go beyond quick snapshots but show carefully and thoughtfully framed and composed photography that is in focus where it is supposed to, is properly exposed and aesthetically pleasing.
The Deliverables: Upload one selected photo per image as detailed below.
Photography of a person or small group of people:
1. Full shot/Long shot // LS (landscape orientation)
2. Full shot/Long shot // LS (portrait orientation)
3. Medium shot // MS (landscape orientation)
4. Medium close-up // MCU (portrait orientation)
5. Medium close-up // MCU (landscape orientation)
6. Close-up // CU (landscape orientation)
7. Close-up // CU (portrait orientation)
8. Extreme close-up // ECU (landscape orientation)
Photography of landmark, building or scenery but not the stadium or walk of champions:
9. Wide shot // WS (landscape orientation)
10. Canted angle of the same landmark building or scenery (landscape orientation)
Wild Cards! [You choose the framing.]
11. A photograph that shows a frame within a frame
12. A photograph that shows the use of lines to create depth
13. A photograph that shows a person against an interesting colored or textured background
14. A photograph or a person or object illuminated with backlight
15. Any photograph that shows you have learned about what makes a photograph visually interesting, compelling... true wild card!
Bonus: take a really cool macro shot where you find something small, take a very close photograph and make it look bigger
