Call Me By Your Name
Director: Luco Guadagnino
DP: Sayonmbhu Mukdeeprom
This is the last scene of the movie where Elio, the boy, is reflecting and getting sad thinking about Oliver, his love, who is gone now and has just told him he will be getting married soon.
The lighting is important for a lot of reasons. When Elio first walks into the room his shadow is apparent on the wall and there are only candles illuminating the room. The immediately gives the scene a scene of melancholy. The fire is the source of lighting that gives the biggest effect in the scene. Elio sits right in front of it and it illuminated his face with the changing shadows that fires make. It is impactful because it emphasizes his face, which is where all the emotion is coming from. It also just gives the whole scene a sense of sad warmth that you know Elio is feeling.
