Black Swan (2010)
Director: Darren Aronofsky
Cinematographer: Matthew Libatique

Natalie Portman's character is initially being shown dancing as the secondary role of the "White Swan". However, she firmly believes that Melissa Kunis' character has cheated her out of the lead role of "Black Swan". Because she is so deeply psychologically distraught from this thought, she loses focus during her part and falls tragically, thus ruining the performance that she had worked so hard to perfect.

Libatique manages to create quite a sinister atmosphere within this scene and throughout the entire movie. He makes sure that Portman has a strong presence of harsh lighting focused on her throughout her performance to fixate the audience's attention on her and her inevitable fall while dancing. Additionally, the audience is blurred out by the use of shadow lighting. This effect creates a dark atmosphere for all watching and makes Portman's fall even more astounding.
