Lighting Assignment - Sophia Karides

Film Title: Skyfall (2012)
Director: Sam Mendes
Cinematographer: Roger Deakins

Logline: In this Bond movie, a mission that James Bond (Daniel Craig) was assigned to ends up extremely backfiring on him. Undercover agents around the world are being exposed while the Secret Intelligence Service, M16 is being attacked. Now because the agency is in trouble, it is forcing M (Judi Dench) to relocate agencies. Things end up being figured out with M16 and M sends Bond on a task to find the list of information full of different British agents that could be used against them. Bond comes to find out that Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem) has all of the information and that he (Silva) was also a part of M's past.

Form: Before both of them fall through the ice, the scene is filled with this warm and fire-y orange light coming from the house that is on fire in the back. The light comes from one side and is reflected off both Bond and Silva's faces which creates beautiful lighting throughout a scene that is really confrontational yet action filled. This is the part where they are face to face each other ready to take what is theirs. The radiating light is essentially the whole landscape behind each character besides the dark sky and whet sticking out from the ground. Apparently, dino lights were used in place of the flaming mansion that was happening in the background.
