Kennedy Park
Camera Movement Assignment

1. Pan Shot
Grease: Live! (2016)
Directors: Thomas Kail and Rudzinski
A live television movie remake of the 1978 original story on two groups of high-school seniors, the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds, enduring the drama of heartbreak, fighting, and love.
In this scene, the T-Birds are in the shop remodeling their car for the drag race. The use of panning allows for the audience to get a feel for the space it was filmed in while also getting that one-on-one experience. In addition to that, the seamlessness of the panning creates a flow the audience can easily follow.

2. Jib/Crane Shot
Selena Gomez at the 2015 Citi Concert on the Today Show
Selena Gomez is near the end of singing her song "Good For You" when the camera switches to the jib shot as an intriguing effect that is used to not only show an arial view of Selena Gomez singing but the large crowd chanting her on as well. The jib shot is another compelling effect to her overall production of her performance.

3. Handheld Shot
The Hunger Games (2012)
Director: Gary Ross
Cinematographer: Tom Stern
Katniss has volunteered in place of her chosen sister to fight to the death in the 74th annual Hunger Games. In this scene, Katniss is fleeing from a fire that the capital has generated to kill her.
The handheld shot is used to create a sense of authenticity. It allows the audience in on the scene, feeling as if they are running- huffing and puffing- right beside her.

4. Drone/ Bird's Eye
Lady Gaga performing at the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show
As she begins singing her song, "Million Reasons," the camera switches to a bird's eye view of the stadium.
This view from the drone is used to fully show the magnitude of an audience of 75,000 people. The drone allows the viewers at home to be able to imagine the atmosphere of the stadium.

5. Wild Card
La La Land (2016)
Directed: Damien Chazelle
Cinematographer: Linus Sandgren
A modern musical where the main characters fall in love over their shared passions of chasing their dreams.
"Another Day of Sun" is the opening number of the film, performed and shot on an expressway.
This scene utilizes the steadicam technique that is able to establish a natural flow to the overall musical number.
