Lighting Assignment
A classic scene in american movie history. Anakin begins his career as a member of the Sith.
Director George Lucas creates many visual masterpieces just throughout this clip. Arguably the biggest turning point in the Star Wars series, when the mask is placed on Anakin's head and he officially becomes Darth Vader. Obviously, red in Star Wars represents the the Sith (evil). The mask is slowly lowered down towards the camera in a POV shot, when the eyes of the mask open, they are initially the same bright light that surrounds the entire mask, but as the mask gets closer the eyes shift to the classic red. Perhaps signaling a Anakin's transition good to evil.
Darth Vader is raised to a standing position with an sort of spotlight feature directly above his head, projecting shadows down his body in an ominous fashion. With very little surrounding light, this particular scene beautifully captures Vader's newfound evil energy.
