Top Songs Through the Decades
1980's : Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Payer
This music video was directed by Wayne Isham which came out
October 31st, 1986 through the label Mercury.
The video starts with the band rehearsing for their concert
and then transitions them to them being live at the concert with all the audience.
The transitions with the camera were interesting, the band
looked and sang straight into the camera. Obviously more than one camera was
used for several shots.
I think
the aesthetic of the music video is how the first part of the video while they
rehearse is black and white which then changes to color when they are performing
live in front of the audience.
1990's : Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca
This music video was directed by Wayne Isham which released
on March 23, 1999 through Columbia label.
In the video Ricky Martin is performing while other people dance
around choreographed dance moves. He sings about a girl and appears at different
locations with her.
The video clips all merge into each other and go back and forth
to one shot to another. It seems like many camera and shots were taken.
Something I observed towards the end of the video was he is
driving around with the girl and causes another car to veer and hit a fire
hydrant releasing water which was also how the video started. Another thing is
when he sings the lyrics about dancing in the rain, it changes the clip to women
dancing in the rain.
2000's : The Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow
This music video was directed by Mathew Cullen and Mark Kudsi and was released March 31st, 2009 through the label Interscope.
The video starts with someone flicking through pictures and they select one which “opens” it and the music starts and shows the Black Eyed Peas in it. Icon images pop up and flash around the background, and dancers in striped suits appear.
A lot of technology was used, the transitions of the music
video were very interesting.
I think the aesthetic of this music video is how in that
year technology was coming up and it shows how we are technology. And I liked
how negative images turned into something positive like the gun turning into a
trumpet.
